CRT, or cathode ray tube, monitors are the dinosaurs of the industry. They are not quite extinct, but indications are they will be soon. When shopping for computer monitors, be sure and compare those with like features. The Internet can be a great tool for doing this, since you can compare features line by line. You want to compare the resolution between computer monitors of a similar size, and look at all brands of computer monitors in your price range. Obviously, the $3000 computer monitors with 2560 x 1600 resolution are normally going to offer superior images, but if that is not in your budget, there is no need to look at these computer monitors.

Cheap LCD monitors are also sometimes referred to as entry level or starter computer monitors. This is because manufacturers assume that you will eventually want to upgrade. However, there are many people who have been using their computer monitors for many years without the need or desire to replace them as long as they work.
